(MD) Two Walter Johnson High School Students Considered Missing After Not Returning Home

Both didn’t come home after school dismissal, five days apart

BY JOE ZIMMERMANN

Two Walter Johnson High School students are considered missing after they didn’t return home at the end of the classes on two separate days in the past week, according to Montgomery County police.

The two 15-year-old girls were last seen leaving the Bethesda school at the time of dismissal five days apart.

Gladys Gabiela Rios-Gonzalez of the 5900 block of Montrose Road in North Bethesda left school Thursday, while Jessica Idalia Carranza Montoya of the 600 block of Kingsford Road in Bethesda was last seen on Monday, according to police. Police issued separate press released about both teens on Tuesday.

Neither returned home or contacted their families about where they were going.

Detectives believe the two 15-year-olds have some of the same friends, but they don’t know if the missing girls are close friends, Sgt. Rebecca Innocenti, a department spokesman, said Tuesday.

“There’s no indication that the cases are related in that there’s no indication that the girls are together,” she said.

Walter Johnson Principal Jennifer Baker sent an email about Rios-Gonzalez to the school community on Monday at 1 p.m. asking anyone with information to call school officials or police.

A missing person poster shared by Baker stated Rios-Gonzalez was seen contacting someone by phone Thursday afternoon, after which a woman picked her up in a small gray car in front of the school.

Police describe Rios-Gonzalez as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 150 pounds. She has black hair and dark brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black jacket over a plaid green-and-black shirt, dark blue pants and black Puma sneakers. She was carrying a red backpack.

Montoya was described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 174 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. She was last wearing a black sweater over a gray T-shirt and black pants.

Police have asked anyone with information about Rios-Gonzalez or Montoya to call 301-279-8000.
