FALL 2017 COURSES

2017 Fall Phoenix Chess Club 

Dates: September 2nd - December 17th, 2017

Join in our vibrant & interactive chess community to explore great thinking and skills with fun!
Here at Alpha STEM for the Gifted, we have our students learn chess from award-winning coaches, chess gurus, experts and national rising stars. Each student would get many chances to compete with one other for practice and fun experiences !

We separate our classes into five different levels of chess:
  • Little Knight : Beginners (5-8 Years, USCF: 000-300)                                                    September 2nd - December 13th, 2017 : Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 PM 
  • Jr. Bishop I : Beginners (7-12 Years, USCF : 200-600)                                                  September 2nd - December 16th, 2017 : Saturdays from 5:30 - 6:30 PM 
  • Sr. Bishop : Beyond Beginners (USCF : 300 - 800)                                                        September 3rd - December 17th, 2017 : Sundays 9:15 - 10:15 AM
  • Awesome Rook : Intermediate (USCF : 800 - 1300)                                                      September 2nd - December 16th, 2017: Saturdays 5:00 - 6:30 PM

2017 Fall Competitive Math Class 

Dates: September 6th - December 13th, 2017

This class is designed to teach the major strategies of :
  • Problem solving
  • Mathematical creativity
  • Stimulate enthusiasm & love for the types of problems that students encounter in competitive mathematics.  
Each week students explore a different math topic or problem-solving strategy in depth and practice non-routine contest problems.

There is also four different levels of this upcoming Competitive Math Class: 
  • Panda Class (1st/2nd Grade)                                                                                     September 9th - December 16th, 2017 : Saturdays 5:00 - 6:30 PM               
  • Tiger Class (3rd/4th Grade)                                                                                        September 10th - December 17th, 2017: Sundays 9:00 - 10:30 AM 
  • Eagle Class (5th/6th Grade)                                                                                       September 6th - December 13th, 2017 : Wednesdays 7:00 - 8:30 PM
  • Dolphin Class (7th/8th Grade)                                                                                    September 7th - December 14th, 2017 : Thursdays, 4:00 - 6:00 PM

With an awards-winning writing teacher with a master degree and 15 years gifted education experience, highly recommended by many parents, she implements learning strategies that motivate children to learn. She creates an exciting learning environment based on the fundamentals of reading and writing. She is committed to a teaching environment that is both challenging and supportive. Her true passion is working with children and helping to foster a desire to be lifelong learners.

There are two available levels of our Fall writing Class: 
  • Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:00 pm, Middle School, 7th-8th graders
  • Wednesdays 6:00 - 7:00 pm, Upper Elementary School, 4th-6th graders


2017 Fall Before-After School Chinese Immersion & STREAM Program 
for Pre K - 5th graders

Dates: September 4th - December 15th, 2017

Our before/after school Chinese Immersion & STREAM program provides a environment with the use of the Mandarin language. This helps children immerse themselves into the Chinese language & culture through experiences. 

With our award-winning native Mandarin-speaking teachers, children will have an opportunity to learn a language at a high level with fun. 


Other than educating kids with the Chinese language, we also provide the following topics: 
  • Daily Two-Way Chinese language Immersion Program, 
  • Budding Math & Logic Reasoning Skills, 
  • English Phonics, Vocabulary & Reading,
  • Creative Arts & Crafts, with professional artist & beloved teachers. 
  • Jr. Robotics & Coding, 
  • Hands-on Science Experiments, Observation.

2017 Fall Da Vinci Art & Design

Dates: September 4th - December 15th, 2017

This ongoing studio session provides an artistic outlet for people just beginning to explore their interest in the visual arts as well as those who have long enjoyed painting, drawing and other art media. Participants will enjoy meeting with professional artist for different kinds of drawing techniques. 

Explore different styles & expertises. The lead teacher is professional artist, besides the lead teacher, kids will have opportunities to explore other styles of virtual arts, such as traditional Chinese Brush Drawing, Animations, Disney-Style 3D drawings, Digital arts with Photoshop skills with other visiting artists. 

Limited Class Size: small group 4-7 students, all levels & all ages.

  • Mondays: 3:30 - 5:00 PM, 5:00 - 6:30 PM, 6:45 - 8:15 PM
  • Tuesdays: 3:30 - 5:00 PM, 5:00 - 6:30 PM, 6:45 - 8:15 PM

Alpha STEM Competition Math Club
This class is designed to teach the major strategies of problem solving, to foster mathematical creativity, and to stimulate enthusiasm & love for the types of problems that students encounter in competitive mathematics. Each week students explore a different math topic or problem-solving strategy in depth and practice non-routine contest problems.

         New sessions starts from Mar 26, 2017. (After spring break).    

       

         35 kids from our center (Alpha STEM & Alpha Enrichment Center) won National Honor Rolls, among them, 4 kids won National 1st place!    

       

         Girls are welcome! We will have special Girls Inspirer Award to encourage more girls to achieve their potential!
